With no trees in sight

Aiming for a sort of book illustration feeling here- I really would love to become an illustrator one day- but I think the next time I try something like this, it will be on a larger canvas XD
I was worried when I first started about how to handle drawing it- I only had the sketch and I froze a moment. Then I just told myself to draw it however I felt like drawing it and not try to force any certain style on myself. I decided to just draw it the way I would naturally draw it and I'm actually so relieved and happy at how clear the drawing process felt and with the finished product.

I have been wanting an image of Lothol on his ill-fated Geari for a while. Cute little girl she was- he raised her from a fledgeling and named her Krosict.
A full grown geari is maybe twice the size of this bird- this is still a very young Geari bird- so cute, and so wild. But it doesn't like to fly at night so it's best to go ahead and land...

I hope you guys like this image! I worked hard on it but oddly it was a very peaceful little project that didn't feel forced- so all in all- very relaxing!
